Khayelitsha Big 7
- About 6 hours
Experience the top attractions of Khayelitsha and see the development of the biggest township in Cape Town. This township tour gives you in-depth history about Khayelitsha, its culture and its community.
The tour starts with engaging with the local community. Learn how to greet in Xhosa (“Molweni”), chat to the locals and experience the vibrant life in the second largest township in South Africa.
You'll spend a session with reformed ex-prisoners at the 18 Gangster Museum before visiting Velokhaya, a local cycling NGO.
We'll head to Spinach King for a quick bite before visiting Makukhanye Art Room where they involve children in art. Lunch will be at 4roomed, a lifestyle concept based on the four roomed homes found in the oldest townships of South Africa.
As we digest the lunch, we'll go for a canoe trip in the township before ending the day at the highest point in Khayelitsha called Lookout Hill.

Had the most memorable day on a biking tour with Siya & Wara that was thoughtful, inclusive, and respectful to the community while being so fun and so informative - an absolute must do for any Cape Town visitors!
This is not a museum in the typical sense of the word. Rather it is an "experience". The visitor gets to enter a reconstructed prison cell and talk to former prison inmates who are attempting to turn their lives around. An emotional and educational experience.
