Spend a Weekend in a Township
- About 13 hours
Experience the lifestyle and culture in a township by staying a weekend in Khayelitsha.
This township weekend tour gives you in-depth history about Khayelitsha, its culture and how gangs impact the community. You'll experience the township and its people by foot, on bicycle and through a visit to a local church.
The weekend starts with engaging with the local community. Learn how to greet in Xhosa (“Molweni”), chat to the locals and experience the vibrant life in the second largest township in South Africa.
Throughout the walk, we'll take you for a quick coffee at Sikis coffee shop, visit the local “green” bakery and stroll through the Khayelitsha Mall and Wall of Remembrance.
On Saturday we will bike through Khayelitsha before ending the day with a proper party at the favourite local hangout, Rands. You'll experience a South African braai meal and dance into the night.
On Sunday we will round things off with a visit to a local church.
It sure is a weekend to remember!

Had the most memorable day on a biking tour with Siya & Wara that was thoughtful, inclusive, and respectful to the community while being so fun and so informative - an absolute must do for any Cape Town visitors!
This is not a museum in the typical sense of the word. Rather it is an "experience". The visitor gets to enter a reconstructed prison cell and talk to former prison inmates who are attempting to turn their lives around. An emotional and educational experience.
